For years my wife and I have eaten popcorn. There is nothing like a big bowl of popcorn in your lap as you settle down to watch a movie or relax. Lately there have come on the market, these new hot air popcorn makers. With a this type of popper no oil is used in the popping of the corn. It is really quite creative and I would never have thought that it could work as well as it does. Why would someone want to pop their popcorn with hot air? Well, sometimes a person just doesn’t want to add any oil or fat into their diet. In cases like this a hot air popcorn maker is just the ideal appliance.

The real advantage that I find in using a hot air popcorn maker is that if I am going to be making some kind of flavored popcorn, there is no need to have the flavor of the oil anyway. The flavors that can be added to popcorn is endless. Most of us have had a cheese covered popcorn that is quite tasty. You can add just about any seasoning that you can imagine to popcorn. I oftentimes sprinkle it with Cajun seasoning. Or you can make a caramel corn too, that is more work than just sprinkling a seasoning on the popcorn, but it is quite worth the effort sometimes.

A hot air popcorn maker uses 400 degree air swirling around the kernels to pop the corn. It is a good idea to serve popcorn shortly after it is made. I find that if you wait just a few minutes after it is popped it is the best. One word of advise, do not try to use oil in a popper of this kind. You will have a huge mess on your hands and possibly ruin your popper.

In the long run a hot air popcorn popper is a very inexpensive way to make popcorn. Of course you will have the investment of the hot air popcorn maker up front, but after that you can buy the popcorn in bulk. We bought a 20 pound bad at Sam’s club a year ago and are still using it.
